XOX is a large-scale light-art installation. Giant 9'-tall letters with printed murals show dazzling colors by day. At night the images morph and animate when illuminated with color-changing lights. The process is fueled by color theory and the science behind light. White light reflects every color of the rainbow. Reducing light to a narrower band of color hides some rainbow colors from the human eye. For example, magenta tones become invisible when illuminated by red light, while blue light hides cyan tones. At night, color-changing lights animate XOX's imagery, revealing hidden faces, flowers and animals. XOX is simultaneously playful and deeply contemplative. As human faces slowly morph into plants and animals, viewers gain a sense of interconnectedness throughout Earth's ecosystems. The letters XOX, an iconic symbol for love, inspire expanded appreciation that we humans are inextricably linked to all Earth's creatures.
